This weekend, celebrate the anniversary of the 2003 blackout, that memorable day when we all realized that we consume too much.

On Saturday night (August 14th), Streets are for People and Newmindspace host a blackout party along Queen Street from Dovercourt to Gladstone, between 8-10 pm. Watch for Samba Elégua near Queen and Gladstone, around 9:30 pm.

On Sunday night (August 15th), Samba Elégua will play at a special blackout anniversary edition of Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington Market, set time TBA.

Samba Elégua will perform this Sunday at the seventh annual Toronto International BrazilFest in Earlscourt Park. Our set is at 4 pm.

Samba Elégua celebrates Canada Day this Thursday as we do every year, by playing the Promise Cherry Beach party. Our set is at 7 pm. Come join us for one of our favourite gigs of the summer!

Directions: From the parking lot at the base of Cherry Street, follow the bike path east past the windsurfing and yacht clubs, halfway to the Leslie Spit. The party is right in front of the huge old hydro plant smokestack that you can see from miles around.

The first weekend of summer offers you a double dose of beats in the streets with Samba Elégua.


On Friday June 25th, we rock a block party with the Justice for Our Communities march. This rally against the G8/G20 summit begins at Allan Gardens (Carleton St. and Sherbourne St.) at 2:30pm. Samba Elégua will meet up with the marchers at a block party around 5, location to be announced.

Then on Sunday June 27th we return to our roots, taking the streets back for Pedestrian Sunday in Kensington Market. PSK’s street closure permit was canceled due to the summit, but we’ll be taking the market back anyway, at around 3:30pm. Come join us for Fire! Summer SUNday.

Join us on Sunday, June 20 for the 8th annual Day of Delight! This celebration of love, courtship and desire presents some of Toronto’s most romantic artists.

Bring someone you love to beautiful Dufferin Grove Park for an afternoon of music, dance, theatre, a giant puppet and bicycle parade, stilt-walking and much more!
