Okay, this year PSK Air does not actually coincide with the Air Show at the CNE, but we’ll still be as light as air!

Blackout Anniversary Party!

Remember August 14, 2003, when all the lights and power went out? It’s time to come together and celebrate a communal moment when there is no need to consume electricity: the Blackout Anniversary Party, hosted by Streets are for People and Newmindspace.

Catch Samba Elegua and a host of other entertainers on Sunday, August 14th, 2011. The fun begins at 8:00 pm at Queen & Spadina and we’ll be on around 9:30.

It’s the July edition of Pedestrian Sundays Kensington: PSK Water! Streams of Consciousness. Though the forecast calls for a sunny day, we will be paying homage to the wet stuff that sustains the world, water.

Catch Samba Elegua at the corner of Kensington Ave. and Baldwin St. in Kensington Market and then follow the pied pipers to the place where we get down together. It all begins at 4 pm sharp on Sunday, July 31st.

Rob Ford may not be at Pride this year but Samba Elegua will. Get a double dose of us at the 2011 Toronto Pride Parade, Sunday, July 3rd.

Pride Toronto 2011

First, catch us in the parade, beginning at 2:00 pm at Bloor and Church Streets. We will be marching with the University of Toronto LGBT contingent, closer to the rear of the parade. Then, look for us at 4:00 pm on the Village Stage at Church and Wellesley Streets.

This year’s Pride is going to be a blast, so come and help make this Samba Elegua’s loudest and most celebratory showcase ever!

Day of Delight 2011!

The Day of Delight features theatre, music, dance, installation and participatory works, including: Cardbordia, Clay & Paper Theatre’s beloved cardboard village, aerial dance, Punch and Judy’s puppet kissing booth, stilt dancing, storytelling, anonymous love letters to strangers, a stag n’ doe can-can, country love songs, and a musical bicycle parade.

The 2011 edition will culminate in a real wedding that will be celebrated by all fanciful festival revelers.

Join Samba Elegua as we sound the initial heartbeats and kick off this lovely event in style! Grab your quiver and an arrow and see you there!

Check Out Samba Elegua at the Muhtadi International Drumming Festival

Drummers and musicians come together for Toronto’s annual Muhtadi International Drumming Festival , which will celebrate its 12th anniversary on June 4th and 5th 2011. Toronto will be treated to international drummers representing cultures from Africa, North America, South America, Europe, India, Japan, China, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, South Korea, and the Middle East.

We’ll be laying it down this Saturday, June 4th from 2-3 pm. Look for us at the Archie Alleyne Stage at the north end of Queens Park (just south of Museum Station).

It’s that time of year again, when spring has sprung (well, we hope this year) and Samba Elegua busts out for the first gig of the spring season, at the Toronto Beaches Lions Easter Parade! Have you got your bunny ears ready?
